Hello friends! How’s your summer going so far? My summer has been pretty amazing. I’m currently on maternity leave enjoying every precious moment with my sweet baby girl. We’ve been busy with play dates, picnics, camping, swimming and every other warm weather activity we can manage to squeeze into the far too short summer season.
It’s been hard to find the time for my blog ever since Aviana was born; however, now that she is 5 months old, she is finally starting to sleep for longer stretches. I’m hoping this means I can return to one of my favorite past times – creating recipes, cookin’ em up and sharing them with you all! I apologize in advance to my husband for the laundry and dishes that are sure to pile up!
So as I mentioned, we are in the midst of a beautiful summer here in Calgary and we’ve had some scorching hot days. A lack of air conditioning in our home has me whipping up some simple and fresh smoothies to beat the heat and cool off. This smoothie is like summertime in a glass. It’s refreshing, hydrating, and easy to digest given the minimal ingredients and low FODMAP content of the fruit. It makes for the perfect summer breakfast, snack or evening cool down treat. You could even have it as a post-workout snack by adding a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder. However you drink it, I hope you enjoy it… as well as the remaining days of summer!
- 1 cup cubed cantaloupe
- 1 banana
- ½ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
- ¼ cup nut milk
- ½ tsp pure vanilla extract
- Handful of ice
- In a blender, add all the ingredients and process until smooth. If smoothie is thick, add more orange juice or nut milk until desired consistency. Pour into a chilled glass and serve.
- For an extra protein boost, add in a scoop of your favorite vanilla protein powder.
